The Big Day!!!

I've been telling everyone "June 8th, or a day or so either side of it is dragonfly Day". People nod with silly disbelief saying "Yeah, right".

Today, June 9th, the dragonflies were out on deck railings, rocks, sidewalk slabs, and picnic tables today. This marks the beginning of the end of the relentless clouds of hungry blackflies and daytime mosquitoes for this year. The mosquitoes will still be around at night, but not like the swarms we've had all day long for the last few weeks.

We've had a lot here in Haliburton, but we went to a Arrowhead Provincial Park this weekend. Lord have mercy they were unbelievable. We spent the weekend in bug suits swatting at them with battery operated bug killer tennis-style rackets. The piles of corpses almost crackled if we stepped on them.

This is a picture of my friend ...... welcome back!

I love the dragonflies.

We've had a few dragonflies up till yesterday, but it's the sudden arrival of so many all at once that I love. It's like the Air Force arrives en masse and starts restoring calm.
