Role Reversal

Most of you know my character and the Mister's character and the contrast. I get excited and pumped about stuff and the Mister says without facial expression, "Yeah, I'm excited."

You can imagine my surprise when we looked at a house yesterday, and the Mister goes bonkers. He's so pumped, and worried about it not coming together. I, on the other hand, am the one saying, "If it's meant to be, it'll happen.".

This house was great, it fits our requirements perfectly with a couple of minor exceptions. The kitchen is fabulous ... that's a must, when we have company, we always end up in the kitchen. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen.

Everything else seems to work too. There's room for the business, room for the RV, room for the pool table, room (and maples) for sugarin'.

I've just got the Mister bouncing off the ceiling like a helium balloon and for some reason, I'm feeling very calm about the whole thing.

My Iresistable Singing

Last night, Muggins was curled up on the chesterfield with the Mister. I started talking to her asking if she was going to come over with me, patting the comfy spot next to me. Nope, barely an acknowledgement. So, I thought, my feet are cold and I want to warm them on her, I'll pull out the big guns.

Offer a cookie? Nope. I started to sing "Where, oh, where has my little dog gone". Instantly, she leapt up ran over and sat right beside me.

Works every time! Seems it's just that song though.

Trust

The way people are today, in this dog eat dog world, we were surprised this morning and rather pleased.

We have been running our business for thirteen years. In that time we've built up relationships with many customers, based on telephone conversations and e-mails. We get kudos all the time on fast service, the personal nature we have of dealing with customers and things like that. This morning we got one of the biggest, most surprising kudos.

We received a letter in the mail from a customer who has placed two orders in the past. They have no internet service, they have no telephone, they live in an area of Ontario with a high Mennonite population.

For the first order, they sent a letter with a list of products they required, we sent an invoice back, they mailed us a cheque and we shipped the order.

The second order, they sent a letter with their order and a cheque written out which included around $8 extra funds to cover shipping. We told them when we shipped their products that we had put a credit on file for the extra $8. That was a year ago.

Today, we received an order with a blank, signed cheque, asking that we fill in the cheque and ship the product as soon as possible. We were astounded at the trust they put in us.

Kind of nice when the attitude of most people today doesn't reflect that sort of co-operation.

Tomorrow we're leaving on an African Safari .... giggle snort, guffaw ... just kidding.

The Answer Seems Obvious

An unfortunate bit of mischief this past weekend prompted this post. CG was at our house and took the unbelievable liberty of turning the toilet paper backwards on the roll.

It seems some folk like it backwards. It's pretty clear to me that the end should be up front, where it's convenient. When it's backwards and the end comes off the back of the roll you have to fuss with it.

Seems obvious which is the correct way of putting the roll to me.

Not to worry CG, it was noticed immediately and switched back to the correct position.

Kiss A Frog

We had a dinner party on Saturday night. The guest list was CG & the Mister, Gryper & the Missus, Grypers brother and sister in-law and Gryper's two sisters.

CG brought Froggie a gift. It was very much appreciated as you can see by the picture. I think they'll be really happy together.

Thanks CG

Letting The Cat Out of Pandora's Box

For some time now, the Mister and I have been considering the number of trips we make to town and back in a week a bit tiresome. On an average week between the two of us, we make between 9 and 11 trips. In the summer they're 35 minute trips and in the winter 45 minute trips, one way. The road is crappy for the first 20 minutes. That's somewhere in the neighbourhood of 10 -12  hours of driving in an average week, if we get invited somewhere for dinner add another hour of driving.

During the course of those drives, we saw a house, over the years, that we both thought looked really nice, and was less than 5 minutes drive from town. We often said, maybe when we're ready to move closer to town it'll go up for sale. It did. We bit the bullet last week and went to our friendly realtors and had them arrange a showing. We both really liked it. So after pondering it for a few days we decided, to list our house and keep our fingers crossed. The idea of a short little jaunt to town is so appealing.

So there you have it, the cat's out of the Pandora's Box and who knows what's next. I just know that I have an anxious stomach and my house is really clean.

Half Sisters

CG lent me her mandolin. She wasn't using it right now, and I thought that since the strings are tuned the same as my violin, it would help with learning some higher note positions, chords and stuff. It's good for her to be played, too. So here are the half sisters. They don't look the same, but you can see the family resemblance. See the shape of the "f holes"? Similar, but not the same.

Thanks, CG, I appreciate you're letting her come here to play.

They Saw Her Standing There

www.shadylanefarm.blogspot.com

CG posted this poor lonely frog, banished to the garden, yet still wearing a forced smile. Froggie and her friends tried to get her to chat on-line, but she was nowhere near the computer.

They are all plotting schemes to kipnap her and bring up to paradise to be with friends.
